Co-Chief Investment Officer
John Haley served as Managing Director, Asia, for Fidelity Information Services (FIS) before joining Circumference Group. FIS provides IT software and services to the financial industry with over $6 billion in annual revenues. As Asia MD, John was based in Bangkok, Thailand, and responsible for sales, project delivery and operations for FIS’s Financial and Payments solutions in Asia. During his seven-year tenure in Asia, John grew the business in Southeast Asia and opened markets for FIS products in Japan, China, India and Pakistan, resulting in an 88 percent increase in revenues.
John’s career with FIS began when he joined Systematics, a predecessor to FIS, in 1983. Systematics was an early mover in the Banking IT outsourcing services and software industry. Between 1983 and 1996, he held a variety of roles centered on the creation and management of software products for the financial industry, and well as research and development and technology architecture and strategy. John contributed to the development of software products as a programmer, architect, development manager and ultimately as the leader of the AIS Client/Server Development Center. Some of these products are still in use today in some of the largest banks in the world.
Systematics was acquired by Alltel Corporation, a regional telecommunications provider, in 1991, and was rebranded Alltel Information Services. In 1996, John was named AIS Senior Vice President of Strategic Development, responsible for business development, acquisitions and corporate technology strategy. In this role, John worked closely with Jeff Fox, division president of AIS (and later founder of the Circumference Group), in realigning and refocusing AIS. The core methodologies that form the basis of the Circumference Group investment strategy were created as part of this effort.
In 1999, John joined the senior management team of AIS’s parent company Alltel as Chief Technology Officer, focusing on technology strategy and IT infrastructure. He created a portfolio of venture capital investments to give Alltel insight into telecommunications technology direction. This provided direction to several initiatives, including Alltel’s first mobile services offerings, customer care and decision support solutions.
John moved to the International Division of Alltel Information Services in 2001 as Chief Technology Officer. John’s responsibilities included technology strategy and sales support, leading a team that used technology as a competitive tool to win business and improve customer satisfaction. John was also part of an 11-person senior management team that organized and managed the sale of AIS to Fidelity National Financial.
Haley holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
